Julie Wagner came to Boise State from Brighton, Colorado, and helped lead the Broncos into the national gymnastics spotlight. The Broncos were members of the Western Athletic Conference in gymnastics from her freshman year through her junior years, and competed with nationally ranked Utah and BYU in the conference championship each of those years. Wagner was not intimidated by her opponents’ national rankings and as a sophomore won the WAC vault title in March of 1993. That same season, she qualified to the NCAA National Championship as an individual and earned top-16 finishes in the vault and all-around competitions, earning All-American status as a result. In 1995, she again earned a trip to the NCAA national Championships and earned All-American status as a bar competitor. She became Boise State’s first Division I All-American in gymnastics. At one time, she held every individual Boise State record possible in gymnastics. She scored the first “10” in any event in Boise State school history – a feat accomplished on the vault on March 20, 1993. Her best all around score – a 39.5- still ranks in the Broncos top-10 list. She was named the State of Idaho’s NCAA Women of the Year in 1995. The Broncos qualified to the NCAA Regional Championships each of her four years.
